After years of planning and one false start in 2020, the calendar change to May tomorrow begins my final countdown to a trip imagined but never completed by my grandfather- back to the place of his parents’ birth. It has been 140 years since they were born in the Comune di Melilli, and 119 years since they left the shores of Sicily for their new life in America. I will use this blog as a journal to document my exploration of the place they once called home.
